Jean studied with Yves Sotin at the Conservatoires (CRR) of Toulouse and Angers, where he was awarded a gold medal and a performance prize. He then perfected his skills with Nadine Denize at the Schola Cantorum. He deepened his knowledge of French music with François Le Roux, Jeff Cohen and Noël Lee; was taught Lieds by Christoph Prégardien; and studied roles with Simone Féjard and Françoise Machiochi. In 2003, he won the Concours Européen de Picardie chaired by Rachel Yakar. He performed Pulcinella by Igor Stravinsky, took part in “Folles Journées” in Nantes, performing “Guercoeur” by Alberic Magnard and Robert Schumann’s “Der Rose Pilgerfahrt” and gave a Schubert recital with the orchestra conductedby Adrian Stern at the Tonhalle in St Gallen in Switzerland. With Noël Lee, he performed “Fêtes Galantes série II” by Claude Debussy on France Musique radio.

At the Nantes opera, he appeared in productions of “Till Eulenspiegel" byKaretnikov (le Gueux), "Der Prozess" by Von Einem (Wilhem), and sang in "L'enfant et les sortilèges” (l'Horloge), “Iphigénie en Tauride” (le scythe), “Fortunio de Messager” (De Verbois) in co-production with the Operas of Rennes and Angers.

He played Pelléas in the original version for piano of "Pelléas et Mélisande" with Alexandre Tharaud at the Auditorium of the Musée d'Orsay and took on the role in the touring production with Philippe Cassard at the National Opera of Damascus, at the theatres of Ankara and Istanbul (the first time the work had been performed in the Middle East), at the Vichy Opera, and at the Maurice Denis music exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay, which was broadcast on France Musique in January 2007. He sang the roles of Barbe Bleue (Blue Beard) in “Douce et Barbe Bleue” by Isabelle Aboulker (Scène Nationale le Manège ), Escamillo in "La tragédie de Carmen" (Bizet/Constant), Silvio in "Paillasse" de Leoncavallo, and appeared in “Grand théâtre de Reims” (a production by the National Company of Lyrical and Musical Theatre followed by a 17-date tour of France). He also performed in Bizet’s “Djamileh” (in association with Gabriel Bacquier) for the Bizet festival in Bougival and played the roles of Baron de Gondremarck in “La Vie Parisienne” staged by Philippe Godefroid, Henri in “Les cloches de Corneville” with the Figaro Si company, “Ariane et Barbe Bleue” by Dukas in the staging of “Lilo Baur" at the Dijon Opera.

He regularly performs Lied and French song and recently gave a recital for the Normandy impressionist festival. In 2013, he gave his first performance of Winterreise with Kyungmin Païk, sang in a Hugo Wolf recital and mostrecently performed in “Die schöne Müllerin”. He dedicates some of his time to encouraging young people to enjoy opera, most notably by taking on the role of Jacques Offenbach in "Jacques Offenbach et la mouche enchantée”, a lyrical fantasy which was well-received by Télérama (TT) and is a frequent collaborator with the “Les voix buissonnières” company, supported by the Orange Foundation.
